music and words

Tignes – The cheaper, less stuck up sister resort to Val D’isere. Tignes has access to the whole of the Espace Killy which includes 2 glaciers and over 180 miles of pistes it’s hard to imagine yourself getting bored during a trip away. If you want to experience some of the best après in Europe you just have to cross over to neighbouring Val D. Luckily a bus runs between the two resorts but you can always catch a taxi later on if you’re having too much fun.

Val Thorens – If you head to VT for a student trip you can be sure of two things: you’ll be joined by thousands of fellow students and there will be snow. It’s the highest resort in Europe with the highest pub (Frog & Roastbeef) and it’s a hot spot for uni trips. Another plus is that you can take advantage of the entire 3 valleys ski area with a ridiculous 600km of slopes to choose from.

Les Deux Alpes – Soon to become one of the biggest ski resorts on the planet, when it links up with neighbouring Alpe H’Duez in 2018, it’s a prime destination for students. On top of it having the largest skiable glacier in Europe, it has some of the best après and a seemingly endless array of off piste available. For any freestyle skiers out there you have to visit the park that’s been voted Europe’s best park five years running!

Pas De La Casa – Far cheaper option than some others on the list so far. You can pick up a pint for under €2 and expect trips from far and wide taking advantage of the outrageously cheap food and drink. The skiing is perfect for beginners and with night skiing available 3 nights a week you can spend your evenings doing something other than drinking yourself into an oblivion.

LAAX – Park rats unite! This is the resort of your dreams, or at least the one you’ve been looking at in season edits for the last few months. Although you can find four snow parks in the resort, there’s still plenty for beginners to do on the slopes. It does get a lot of sun so those who aren’t huge fans of slush might find it difficult, but who doesn’t love slush?

How to Dress if You’re Short and Stocky

There’s no need for short and stocky men to feel like they can’t be stylish. Let’s take a look at a few simple tips that make any man look great no matter what size he is.

Read more How To Wear It Features

We all come in different shapes and sizes but fashion doesn’t always cater to everyone as much as we’d like. This doesn’t mean heavyset men can’t be fashionable but it can hold the bulky man back from being more adventurous with his clothing. If you think hefty men can’t be stylish we’re about to prove you wrong.

Rocking Stocky Men’s Fashion

If you’re a heavyset guy it can be difficult to feel confident when you try on fashionable clothes. It’s too easy to think that fashionable clothes are designed for for skinny people but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

This mistake means bigger guys end up wearing loud, brash colours and patterns that do nothing to compliment their build. Always think refined and simple.

While we love floral numbers as much as the next man but you should avoid getting bogged down in to much pattern. Try out pastel coloured shirts with dark jeans or chinos. You’ll feel so much more confident as the compliments come rolling in.

Style Tricks for Fat Guys

There’s no denying it: when big guys get it right, fat guy style is unstoppable. Yet it’s not always easy for hefty men to put together an outfit that makes them look and feel good.

This is where accessories come in:

  • pocket square can give your outfit the flash of colour it needs.
  • Watches create an image that’s about so much more than your mass.
  • Hats are a bold statement but so worth the risk, they can turn an outfit from average to A+.

Finding Clothes for Short Stocky Men

One tip you have to follow is think light, not tight! It even rhymes so how can you forget it? Skinny jeans make bulky men look round on top whereas fitted jeans that hang close to your body create a look that suits your build.

But don’t go too far in the other direction.

We know It’s tempting to buy baggy clothes hoping they’ll hide your bulk. It doesn’t work, the shadows create an illusion of you being bigger than you really are – not good. Always wear clothes that fit you without being too tight. Not only will you feel more comfortable, you’ll look great as well.

Fashion for Big Guys is Possible

A heavyset body type can be difficult to buy for but if you shop with confidence it makes everything so much easier. Do what feels right for you. For example, if your shirt feels too tight tucked in then leave it untucked! It’s your body so you get to make the rules.

If you’re a short muscular man you’ll be aware of how difficult it is to find pants or shirts that fit, men with broad shoulders dread having to dress fashionably.

Try throwing a jumper on top of a tight shirt and loosen your collar. You won’t be so worried about bursting at the seams every time you move.

Top tip: a dark jumper will make you appear smaller than you are.

Ideal Shirts for Short Men

Short men’s clothing tends to fail when it comes to shirts and shopping can be a complete nightmare. No one wants to look like a 13 year old boy with sleeves half way down their hands. Finding clothing for short men can be tough, if you can’t get hold of a shirt that fits perfectly all over, settle for a collar that’s comfortable and have the sleeves altered.

Once you have a shirt that fits right you’ll wonder how you survived without your tailor in the first place. This is definitely where experimenting comes into play, don’t be afraid to order clothes you wouldn’t normally wear and think about how they’d look with a little alteration, you’ll find your wardrobe can double in a matter of clicks.

Here are a couple of tips to bear in mind when shopping for your next shirt:

  1. You should be able to fit a finger between your collar and neck.
  2. If you have a bigger face, buy a bigger collar.
  3. Consider getting some shirts custom made, if you can’t afford it at home there are a few options abroad that aren’t as expensive as you’d think.

Where Are The Suits for Short Heavy Men?

The tailor is your friend! Chubby men’s fashion is often overlooked but with a few simple alterations you can make any suit look sharp.

Pants for short men aren’t widely available. When you find your trousers are bunching at the ankle, turn them up yourself or head down to your tailor.

If you’re committed to looking good you should buy some suspenders. Too often stocky guys make the mistake of wearing belts that leave their belly bulging over the top of their trousers (not ideal). Suspenders let your trousers to sit comfortably over your stomach.

Your Quick Guide on How to Dress if You’re Short and Stocky

  • Accessorise! Simple additions like a watch or sunglasses can make all the difference.
  • Tailoring can transform drab shirts or baggy trousers.
  • Dark colours are slimming but don’t be afraid to mix it up with something brighter.
  • Avoid belts and opt for suspenders to draw less attention to your belly.
  • Ditch tight fitting clothing, skim your body rather than constrict it.

On That Note…

There are so many different sizes and shapes out there and although fashion doesn’t treat all sizes equally, there are lots of ways you can make the most of what’s on offer! The most important thing is to feel confident, once you’ve got this down there’s no stopping you. So go on, get yourself out there and take a few risks. There’s no reason you can’t feel great and look just as good (if not better) as any 6’2 male model.

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

This post has been edited, I don’t know what I was thinking! Yes, I’ve got Wolf Parade tickets this week and yes I’m rekindling my indie rock phase but who cares!? I had a epiphany, this track absolutely bangs. The vocal is too perfect, take a listen and tell me I’m not the only one!

Love is a Hurting Thing!

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

Well it’s that time of week again, time to let loose and think about the weekend. Imagine that, spending your life thinking about a weekend. This week the music talks for itself so I thought I’d just add this

Let’s let loose

leaving them to follow the empty headed

Let’s get gone

Time spent wishing you weren’t here

we’re gone to the land of hope

a real dream unleashed outside their real

real job

real life

when ya gonna get one? said from their gated estate.

(let’s bring the gates down on their heads)

A sun shines for all but only the enlightened know not to look up.

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

This year has made me seriously consider what I want to be doing for the next few years of my life and I’m getting a better idea that the answer is a lot broader than people traditionally expect. This is the man that brought the house down on 2016 – Midland and today his Blush EP arrived through the post so I couldn’t think of a better track to dance to.

This track has me captivated, the sign of a mesmerising techno track is when I forget what I’m doing and find myself caught up in the beat – this post has taken me way longer than it should because I’ve got Holdup playing in the background.

The sun came out today, summer’s coming and that means people want to party again. Holdup is not a summer party track but it’s 3am and you’re lost in the night, hold up your hands, feel the sweat sticking to your t shirt and be you!

Let’s Dance!

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

Music can give so much – it allows you to leave this reality and let your imagination run wild.

The track this week is a 20 minute journey and to call it beautiful is to simplify what it is. This week I took the time to really listen to this track, not listen whilst checking Facebook or reading but allow myself to embrace the story. What’s so magical is how everyone’s story is different, each time I listen I’ve found myself facing an old memory or new invention

Give it a go oh.

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

There has been so much music in my life this week, I’ve discovered Van Morrison, been mesmerised by Mary Clark but how could I not pick a track from J Dilla’s The Diary.

Listening to new Dilla is a timely reminder to appreciate what we have, the album’s not a classic but it’s incredible to hear music from someone so influential and he made Donuts, if you don’t know what donuts is, buy it and listen from start to finish and you’ll fall in love.

I’ve chosen this track because of the beat! I don’t need to say much more it speaks for itself, the track isn’t mind blowing but I can’t help but do the scrunched up hip hop face when I’m listening and that’s always a good sign.

RIP JD Dance on!

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

Sometimes you have one of those weeks where you feel like you’re swimming through shit. This is one of those weeks and to top it all my tooth broke, in moments like these there’s nothing else to do than lose yourself in a mesmerising album. Luckily for me Kowton released one, Utility is the other world I needed to hide away in.

A Bluish Shadow is the kind of track that leaves you hypnotised and as you’re about to nod off the album throws you off the bed. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

It’s Wednesday… Let’s Dance

I forgot how much I love Broken social scene.

People have been asking me who I’d want to see at Glastonbury this year and I hadn’t really given it much thought. There’s actually a pretty long list that include the impossible (Smiths) to the confirmed (Floating Points) but it would be incredible to see BSS reform and smash out classics like this, however unlikely it now is.

It’s hard to ignore such beautiful, life defining music that makes you feel things you don’t want to
